82nd Airborne Chorus was a choir from Season 18 of America's Got Talent. They finished in the Bottom 6 of the Top 11.
Background[]
Based in Fort Liberty, North Carolina, the 82nd Airborne Division All-American Chorus represents the 19,000 soldiers who serve in the 82nd Airborne. The Airborne Division specializes in forcible entry operations, during which soldiers parachute into areas to make way for further military operations. The chorus' mission is to provide music to Fort Liberty and the local area by "telling the Army story" in support of soldiers and their families, the local community, recruiting initiatives and music education programs. The group has performed around the country, including an appearance on NBC's "TODAY." A video of the group singing an a cappella tune while waiting for a routine jump went viral in 2022, thrusting the soldiers into the spotlight. The Army hopes that spotlight will continue to shine on "AGT."
Audition[]
82nd Airborne Chorus' audition in Episode 1806 consisted of singing The Temptations' "My Girl" as a tribute to their fallen comrade, Elijah Crawford and all of the soldiers who had passed away prior to him. All 4 judges voted "Yes", sending them to the next round.
Deliberations[]
The group was chosen to advance to the Semifinals.
Semifinal[]
82nd Airborne Chorus' Semifinals performance in Episode 1818 consisted of singing P!nk's "I Am Here". Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell all gave them standing ovations. They received enough votes to enter the top 5 of the night in Episode 1819 instead of SangSoon Kim and Mandy Muden, and the top 3 instead of Eduardo Antonio Treviño and Avantgardey. They advanced to the Final along with Ramadhani Brothers instead of Gabriel Henrique.
Finals[]
82nd Airborne Chorus' Finals performance in Episode 1820 consisted of singing NEEDTOBREATHE's "Brother". Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell all gave them standing ovations.
Finale[]
In the Episode 1821 finale, 82nd Airborne Chorus sang an acapella rendition of "Paratroopers' Song" to open the show. They did not receive enough votes to enter the top 5, eliminating them from the competition instead of Anna DeGuzman.
Trivia[]
- 82nd Airborne Chorus and Shadow Ace are the only two non-Golden Buzzer acts to close out a Semifinal night in Season 18.
- Of the two acts, only 82nd Airborne Chorus advanced onto the Final.
- They are the only non-Golden Buzzer singing act of Season 18 to reach the final.
- The bridge of their final performance was omitted from the Countdown to the Finale replay. Whether this was done due to the 1-hour time constraint, or to exclude the unsuccessful high note at the song's climax, is unknown.
