Acapop! were an a cappella group from Season 17 of America's Got Talent. They were eliminated in the Semifinals.

Background[]

Scott Hoying is a member of the famous a cappella group Pentatonix. In 2019, he co-founded an all-kids a cappella group called Acapop! KIDS. Their first music video went up in October of that year, featuring a cover of “High Hopes” by Panic! at the Disco.

That video has racked up over 15 million views in less than three years. Other popular uploads from the group include their cover of “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper, and a medley of “Bohemian Rhapsody” and “Somebody to Love” by Queen.

Acapop! KIDS also delivered an incredible live medley of Kelly Clarkson songs on The Kelly Clarkson Show in 2020. The performance, featuring tracks like “A Moment Like This” and “Stronger,” brought the host to tears.

The group’s latest YouTube video (published in 2021) features a cover of “Kings & Queens” by Ava Max. However, they uploaded a cover of Miley Cyrus’ “I Learned from You” on social media in March of this year.

Audition[]

Acapop!'s audition in Episode 1706 consisted of singing an original song called "My Turn", written by Nolan Gibbons, a former member who had passed away in 2020. All of the judges voted "Yes", sending them to the next round.

Deliberations[]

Acapop! were selected to advance to the Semifinals.

Semifinals[]

Acapop!'s Semifinals performance in Episode 1716 consisted of singing an original song called "Glow". Howie Mandel buzzed the act. They did not receive enough votes to enter the Top 5 of the night in Episode 1717, eliminating them from the competition instead of Metaphysic.

Trivia[]

  • Season 15 quarterfinalist Kelvin Dukes and Season 17 semifinalist Bri'Anna Harper of Jojo and Bri are both members of the group.
  • Group founder Scott Hoying and his fellow Pentatonix members participated in the 9th season of The Masked Singer as the "California Roll", finishing in 3rd place. Howie Mandel, who buzzed Acapop! in the Semifinals, participated in the same season as "Rock Lobster".
