Alexandr "Alex" Magala was a sword swallower from Season 8 of America's Got Talent. He was eliminated in the Quarterfinals. Alexandr returned for America's Got Talent: The Champions, where he was eliminated in the Preliminaries.

Background[]

Alexandr Magala is from Moldova. In addition to sword swallowing, Alexandr is also an experienced aerialist and pole dancer. 1

Prior to competing on AGT Alex competed on Italy's Got Talent in 2013 making the Finals.

Audition[]

Alexandr Magala's audition in Episode 806 consisted of "swallowing" a sword and break dancing with the sword kept in his mouth. Howard SternHeidi KlumMel B, and Howie Mandel all voted "Yes," sending Alex to the Vegas Round.

Vegas Round[]

Alexandr Magala was sorted into the "Danger Acts" category in the Vegas Round. His performance in Episode 808 consisted of swallowing a sword and then dancing and sliding down the pole with the sword still in his mouth. His performance was strong enough for the judges to send him to the Quarterfinals along with Brad Byers and Sam Johnson in Episode 809.

Quarterfinals[]

Alexandr Magala's Week 2 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 812 consisted of sliding down a pole while holding firecrackers and performing a backflip with a sword in his mouth. Alexandr did not receive enough votes to be sent to the Semifinals in Episode 813, eliminating him from the competition along with Ciana Pelekai, instead of Marty Brown.

After Season 8[]

Alexandr auditioned for the 10th season of Britain's Got Talent and managed to make it to the Finals, becoming the first BGT act that originally was on AGT to make it to the finals. He finished in 9th place. He also auditioned for France, Ukranian and Russian versions of Got Talent, winning the Russian one in 2014. In the same year Alex also performed at the 2014 Winter Olympics opening ceremony in Sochi.

In 2016 Alex appeared on Slovakia's Got Talent where he made the Semifinals.

The Champions Preliminary[]

Alexandr Magala returned for The Champions. His preliminary performance in Episode TC01 consisted of taking a blade and swallowing it straight down his mouth to the guard and then having Simon pull it out.  He then did a back flip with a sword down his throat and hung from a sword attached to a harness in the ceiling and then slid off of it.  Afterwards, he climbed a massive pole in the center of the stage with a sword in his mouth and then dropped face down from the top of the pole to the floor.  Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. Alexandr did not receive enough votes to advance to the night's Top 3, eliminating him from the competition.

After the Show[]

In 2019, Alex competed on the World's Got Talent special held in China. He was the winner of his Preliminary, sending him to the Semifinals. He ended up being eliminated after finishing third in his Semifinal round, placing under Danylo and Oskar and Chinese magician Deng Man.

In the same year, Alexandr competed on the ninth season of Australia's Got Talent, where he was eliminated in the Judge Cuts. He also competed on Britain's Got Talent: The Champions.  He was eliminated in week 5 of the Preliminaries, finishing in 2nd place ahead of BGT season 8 winners Collabro, but behind BGT season 8 3rd placers Bars and Melody.

  • To date, Alexandr Magala has the distinction of placing the highest on his Britain's Got Talent season of all known acts that have been on both BGT and a regular season of America's Got Talent, coming in 9th place in the Final. Season 13 act UDI came closest to his record, as they finished 10th on their season of BGT. .
  • Ryan Stock and AmberLynn and Alexandr Magala are the lowest ranked AGT acts to compete on the first season of The Champions, being the only ones that originally went out in the Quarterfinals.
  • According to his BGT: Champions profile, Alex has now competed on 12 different versions of Got Talent.
