Chioma & The Atlanta Drum Academy was a percussion group from Season 18 of America's Got Talent. They finished in 3rd place in their Semifinal week and was nominated for the Wild Card vote, but did not advance.

Background[]

Chioma and the Atlanta Drum Academy came to Los Angeles ready to share their talent with America. Chioma, the 8-year-old leader of the group, is a percussionist with incredible vision who dreamed of earning a Golden Buzzer with his drum squad. In a moment of pure awe, their dream came true as they earned Terry’s Golden Buzzer. The young performers have since been presented with opportunities to complete musical training and have performed on various TV shows as “Little Big Shots,” “Good Morning America” and “Inside the NBA.” The group hopes to continue sharing their amazing percussion talents on the world’s greatest stage.

Audition[]

Chioma & The Atlanta Drum Academy's audition in Episode 1803 consisted of performing a high-energy choreographed percussion routine. Impressed with their performance, Terry Crews hit the Golden Buzzer, sending the group directly to the Semifinals.

Semifinals[]

Chioma & the Atlanta Drum Academy's Semifinals performance in Episode 1812 consisted of performing a hip-hop inspired percussion routine on drums and buckets complete with light-up drumsticks and shoes to "Coming in Hot" by Andy Mineo and "Boom Boom Pow" by The Black Eyed Peas. Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara and Simon Cowell all gave them standing ovations. They received enough votes to enter the top 5 of the night in Episode 1813 instead of Dani Kerr, and the top 3 instead of Alfie Andrew and Ryland. They finished in 3rd place behind Ahren Belisle and Murmuration, eliminating them from the competition.

Wild Card Vote[]

The group was nominated by Simon Cowell for for the Instant Save Wild Card vote, but did not receive enough votes to return as the 11th finalist.

  • Chioma & The Atlanta Drum Academy are the first drumming act to receive a golden buzzer in the show's history.
  • They’re Terry Crews' first golden buzzer act since Voices of Our City Choir to be eliminated in the Semi-Finals.
  • They’re the first act to open a Semi-Final and finish in 3rd place in America’s vote since the format change in Season 17.
  • Chioma & The Atlanta Drum Academy is one of two Golden Buzzer acts to appear as a Wild Card candidate in Season 18, with the other being Gabriel Henrique.
    • However, the first instance of a Golden Buzzer act appearing as a Wild Card candidate is Lily Meola in Season 17. All three aforementioned acts were unable to occupy the 11th finalist slot in their respective seasons.
