The twelfth episode of Season 4, and the fifty-ninth episode of America's Got Talent overall, aired on July 29, 2009. It was the second of two Vegas Round episodes and took place in Las Vegas. 23 acts from this episode proceeded to the Top 40 Quarterfinals, and 11 acts were eliminated.
Process
Acts were brought before the judges and informed whether they would perform live in the Top 40 Quarterfinals (Unlike other seasons, a majority of the acts did not perform in the Vegas Round). The judges selected three dance groups: Breaksk8, Destined 2 Be, and U4RIA Dance Crew for a challenge. They were asked to prepare a dance routine in 12 hours. Each group would perform to the same piece of music. After watching the performances, the judges would decide which dance groups, if any, would advance.

Wild Card
Simon Cowell, executive producer of the show, called the judges on their flight back to Los Angeles, stating that he was unhappy with some of the eliminations the judges made. Cowell revealed that there was just "too much talent" eliminated, and that he felt that a number of these acts should be given another chance. As a result, 2 acts were brought back as Wild Cards during each Quarterfinal round. This turned the Top 40 into a Top 48.
