Feng E was a ukulelist from Season 15 of America's Got Talent. He was eliminated in the Quarterfinals in the Judges' Choice.

Background[]

Ukulele child prodigy Feng E was born in Taiwan in 2007. In 2017, at the age of 10, he was a finalist on Asia's Got Talent. In 2018, a video of Feng E playing ukulele in a park area of Taipei went viral and now has nearly 20 million views. Owing to the viral video, Feng E was invited to The Ellen DeGeneres Show and played his ukulele for the world. Even though he's referred to as a child prodigy, Feng E's path to virtuosity wasn't so easy. The reason he took up the instrument was that his kindergarten teacher had discovered Feng E's finger development was slow; he couldn't draw a straight line or form a ball out of clay. His father tried to get him to play the piano, but the youngster lacked both interest and aptitude. When Feng E's father introduced him to the ukulele, he also resisted. But his father eventually found a way to convince him to practice: he offered to play Legos with him after each lesson, and it worked. To date, Feng E has mastered five musical instruments, including piano. He also has numerous compositions to his name. Feng E has become a star in the world of ukulele music, performing and winning competitions around the world in places like Singapore, Malaysia, Japan, China and Hawaii.

Audition[]

Feng E's audition in Episode 1504 consisted of performing The Weeknd's "Can't Feel My Face" on the ukulele. Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell all voted "Yes", sending him to the next round.

Judge Cuts[]

Feng E automatically advanced to the Quarterfinals without performing in Episode 1508.

Quarterfinals[]

Feng E's Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1509 consisted of playing an arrangement of The White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water" on the ukulele via satellite from Taiwan. Howie Mandel gave him a standing ovation. Feng finished in 4th, 5th, or 6th place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, he received fewer online votes than Brett Loudermilk. In the Judges' Choice, Kelly Clarkson voted for him, but Heidi Klum, Sofia Vergara, and Howie Mandel did not, eliminating him from the competition in Episode 1510 instead of Double Dragon.
