Tyler Butler-Figueroa was a violinist from Season 14 of America's Got Talent. He finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10. Tyler returned for AGT: The Champions 2 where he finished the competition in 3rd place. 

Background[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa is from Raleigh, North Carolina. He was diagnosed with leukemia at 4 years old but has now been in remission from chemotherapy for four years. He first discovered the violin after seeing a flyer at school for free afterschool violin lessons which helped him overcome being bullied in school due to his cancer. He has performed in the streets of downtown Raleigh. [1]

Audition[]

Tyler Butler-Figeruoa's audition in Episode 1403 consisted of playing Kelly Clarkson's "Stronger" on the violin. Impressed by his performance, Simon Cowell pressed his Golden Buzzer, sending Tyler straight to the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1413 consister of playing Swedish House Mafia's "Don't You Worry Child" on the violin. Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. Tyler received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals in Episode 1414 instead of Joseph Allen.

Semifinals[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Semifinals performance in Episode 1417 consisted of playing Zedd ft. Ariana Grande's "Break Free" on the violin. Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough, Simon Cowell and guest judge Sean Hayes all gave him standing ovations.  Tyler received enough votes to advance to the Finals in Episode 1418 instead of Messoudi Brothers and Jackie Fabulous.

Finals[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Finals performance in Episode 1421 consisted of playing Destiny's Child's "Survivor" on the violin.  Howie Mandel, Gabrielle Union, Julianne Hough and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations.

Finale[]

For the finale in Episode 1422, Tyler performed Ariana Grande's "7 Rings" with Brian King Joseph prior to Light Balance Kids performing with Paula Abdul.  He did not receive enough votes to advance to the Top 5, eliminating him from the competition instead of Detroit Youth Choir.

The Champions 2 Preliminary[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Preliminary performance in Episode TC203 consisted of playing "Old Town Road" by Lil Nas X and "The Git Up" by Blanco Brown on the violin backed by several dancers.  Howie Mandel, Alesha Dixon, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations.  Tyler received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals instead of Miki Dark and Moses Concas.

The Champions 2 Semifinal[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Semifinal performance in Episode TC205 consisted of playing Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World" on the violin backed by a vocalist.  Howie Mandel, Alesha Dixon, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. Tyler received enough votes from the Superfans to advance to the Finals instead of JJ Pantano.

The Champions 2 Final[]

Tyler Butler-Figueroa's Final performance in Episode TC206 consisted of playing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" on the violin.  Howie Mandel, Alesha Dixon, Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations.

The Champions 2 Finale[]

In Episode TC207, Tyler performed Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" with Angelina Jordan accompanying Kseniya Simonova's sand art story. He received enough votes from the Superfans to enter the Top 5 instead of Alexa Lauenburger. Tyler finished the competition in 3rd place, ahead of Marcelito Pomoy and Sandou Trio Russian Bar, but behind V.Unbeatable and Duo Transcend.

Trivia[]

  • Tyler Butler-Figueroa is the first violinist to receive the Golden Buzzer.
  • He is also Simon Cowell's first Golden Buzzer that isn't a singer.
  • He is one of three Golden Buzzer acts chosen by Simon to have (or have had) some form of cancer diagnosis, the others being Calysta Bevier in Season 11 and Nightbirde in Season 16.
  • He was the highest placing solo act of Champions 2.
