Gary Vider was a comedian from Season 10 of America's Got Talent. He finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10.
Background[]
Gary Vider is a New York City based comedian. In 2014, Gary made his stand up TV debut on CONAN. His jokes have been published in the New York Times and Time Out NY Magazine. He was named a "Comic to Watch" by Esquire and was the winner of the 2014 Carolines on Broadway March Madness competition where he beat out 63 of the best young comedians. He has told his jokes in the Bridgetown Comedy Festival, Laughing Skull Festival, and Boston Comedy Festival. [1]
Audition[]
Gary Vider's audition in Episode 1006 consisted of joking about his friend setting him up for a date and him being the girl version of himself. At least three judges voted "Yes," sending Gary to the Judge Cuts round.
Judge Cuts[]
Gary Vider's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1011 consisted of joking about his low yearly salary and asking his parents for money. Gary's performance was strong enough for the judges to send him to the Quarterfinals.
Quarterfinals[]
Gary Vider's Week 3 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1016 consisted of joking about his dating life, stealing from his roommate, and mistaking people for being related. Gary finished in sixth, seventh, or eighth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, Gary received more online votes than both Benjamin Yonattan and Daniella Mass, sending Gary to the Semifinals in Episode 1017.
Semifinals[]
Gary Vider's Week 2 Semifinals performance in Episode 1020 consisted of joking about working out in a 24-hour gym, wanting to be walked home in a dangerous neighborhood, pumping oxygen into a casino, Jewish people raising their hands, and staring at Mel B in an elevator. Howie Mandel gave him a standing ovation. Gary finished in fourth or fifth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, Gary received fewer online votes than Uzeyer Novruzov. In the Judges' Choice, although Heidi Klum and Mel B did not vote for him, Howard Stern and Howie Mandel did, forcing a tiebreaker; whichever act had received more votes from America would progress. Gary received more votes than Freelusion, sending him to the Finals in Episode 1021.
Finals[]
Gary Vider's Finals performance in Episode 1022 consisted of joking about North Korea setting everybody's dollar value to zero (and erasing his debt), not knowing about Bruce's transition, his respect of Ryan Gosling, being in a long-distance relationship, and going to Israel for free because he's Jewish.
Finale[]
For the finale in Episode 1023, Gary Vider attempted to roast Drew Lynch. When guest Jeffrey Ross insisted that they were too nice, Jeffrey roasted both the comedians and the judges. Gary and Drew then retorted by roasting Jeffrey. Gary did not receive enough votes to be included in the Top 5, eliminating him from the competition instead of Drew Lynch.
Trivia[]
- In the Quarterfinals, Gary won the Dunkin Save by 24 votes.
- Gary was the first act in AGT (since the format change in Season 10) to have to rely on the Dunkin Save (Quarterfinals) and the Judges Choice (Semifinals) to get to the Finals.
