Glennis Grace was a singer from Season 13 of America's Got Talent. She finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10.

Background[]

Glennis Grace is a singer from the Netherlands who won the national selection in the Netherlands for the Eurovision Song Contest 2005 in Kyiv, Ukraine for the nation. Grace's song was the ballad "My Impossible Dream", but she did not advance to the final, finishing in 14th place in the semifinal. She was discovered after she won a Dutch TV talent show where she performed Whitney Houston's "One Moment in Time". In April 2011 she reached the top of the Dutch singles chart with a rendition of "Afscheid", originally made famous by Volumia. She has had charting songs going back to 1994. [1] She is also part of the all-female Dutch singing troupe Ladies of Soul.

She grew up in a volatile household as her parents often fought, and music was her escape from that environment. She has an 11-year-old son named Anthony, who encouraged her to try out for America's Got Talent.

Glennis Grace's audition in Episode 1305 consisted of singing Whitney Houston's "Run to You". Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all voted "Yes," sending her to the Judge Cuts.

Judge Cuts[]

Glennis Grace's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1310 consisted of singing Sinead O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U". Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, Simon Cowell, and guest judge Chris Hardwick gave her standing ovations. Her performance was strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals.

Glennis Grace's Week 2 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1313 consisted of singing "Never Enough" from The Greatest Showman. Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell gave her standing ovations. Glennis received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals in Episode 1314 along with Samuel J. Comroe, although she initially thought only Samuel advanced.

Glennis Grace's Week 2 Semifinals performance in Episode 1319 consisted of singing "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations. Glennis finished in fourth, fifth or sixth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, she received more online votes than Daniel Emmet and We Three, advancing to the Finals in Episode 1320.

Glennis Grace's Finals performance in Episode 1321 consisted of singing "Run" by Snow Patrol. Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations.

Finale[]

For the finale in Episode 1322, Glennis Grace sang "Meant To Be" with Bebe Rexha. She did not receive enough votes to advance to the Top 5, eliminating her from the competition instead of Brian King Joseph.

After The Show[]

Alongside Dutch DJ Afrojack and singer Wulf, Glennis performed as an interval act at the grand final of the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam on May 22, 2021. She was also a coach on Season 12 of The Voice of Holland. [2]

Trivia[]

  • Glennis is the only singer of Season 13 to win the Dunkin' Save in the Semifinals.
  • She was the first former Eurovision Song Contest participant (main or Junior) to cross over to AGT. She was followed by Daneliya Tuleshova (6th place, Junior Eurovision 2018) in Season 15 and Sara James (runner-up, Junior Eurovision 2021) in Season 17. All three reached the final in their respective seasons.
