Gymkana was an acrobatic group from Season 6 of America's Got Talent. It was eliminated in the Semifinals.
Background[]
Founded in 1946 at the University of Maryland, Gymkana combines traditional gymnastics with extreme acrobatics, creating a high-flying, action-packed performance that appeals to audiences both young and old alike. Gymkana’s philosophy is that anyone can learn gymnastics regardless of age or experience level. With this attitude, thousands of college students have been given the opportunity to bounce, balance, flip, twist, and strive for unbelievable abilities.
Each year, Gymkana team members serve as role models to tens of thousands of elementary, middle and high school students, illustrating that kids can “soar above the influence” and have fun without drinking, drugs or tobacco. As an outreach program of the University of Maryland School of Public Health, Gymkana’s mission is to promote drug, alcohol and tobacco-free living to young people. 1
Audition[]
Gymkana submitted its audition onto YouTube. The audition consisted of three men in the middle of two ladders, while three women on each of the other sides of the men performed acrobatic tricks on the ladders. Its audition was strong enough for the judges to send it to the Quarterfinals along with eleven other YouTube Acts.
Quarterfinals[]
Gymkana's Quarterfinals performance in Episode 621 consisted of three men in the middle of two ladders, while three women on each of the other sides of the men performed acrobatic tricks on the ladders and jumping through the space between the two ladders to "Edge of Glory." The act received enough votes to send it to the Semifinals in Episode 622 instead of Powerhouse.
Semifinals[]
Gymkana's Semifinals performance in Episode 627 consisted of performing flips using trampolines and jumping through a hoop lit on fire. The performance was cut prematurely when one member of the group caught on fire when attempting a jump on the ring of fire. Piers Morgan buzzed the act, claiming he thought the routine was repetitive. The act did not receive enough votes to finish in at least sixth place in America's Vote, eliminating it from the competition in Episode 628 along with Steven Retchless, instead of Silhouettes.
