Background[]

Julianne and her brother Derek are best known for being professional dancers on the ABC series Dancing with the Stars for five seasons and winning two consecutive Mirrorball Trophies, and was one of the permanent judges for three seasons. She has also branched into acting, her most notable roles include Ariel in the 2011 remake of the 1984 Footloose, Sherrie in the 2012 film adaptation of the musical Rock of Ages and Sandy in the 2016 live adaptation of Grease.

Aside from acting and dancing, she has released 2 albums as a singer, her self-titled debut reached #1 on the Billboard country chart in 2008. Her new single, "Transform", was released in 2019 - her first solo recording in over a decade.

In June 2022, she was featured on her debut Broadway theater production POTUS: Or Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive as a political satire play portraying Dusty.

On March 20, 2023, it was announced that Julianne would replace former AGT host Tyra Banks as the new co-host of Dancing with the Stars ahead of its 32nd season.

She was married to Canadian hockey player Brooks Laich from 2017-2020 when she filed for divorce.

Judge Personality[]

Julianne was often seen as the “Motherly” judge, often providing philosophical quotes to contestants, whilst still offering feedback to help nurture each contestant individually. When she did buzz, she would be very honest about why. She was never afraid to tell each act to not try and fit the mold, always citing differences in act individuality.
