Kechi was a singer from Season 12 of America's Got Talent. She finished in the Bottom 5 of the Top 10. Kechi returned for America's Got Talent: The Champions. She finished in the Bottom 7 of the Top 12.

Background[]

Kechi Okwuchi is currently based in Houston, Texas. She has been singing since she was seven or eight in a children's choir in Nigeria.

On December 10, 2005, Kechi Okwuchi got on a flight with about 60 friends from her boarding school between Nigerian cities Abuja and Port Harcourt. She was sitting in an aisle seat next to her best friend. This plane, Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145, crashed. As one of two survivors out of 109, she has been in stages of recovery from burns and other injuries. She has had more than a hundred surgeries. Music served as an escape for her as she dreamed of performing in front of large crowds. [1]

Audition[]

Kechi's audition in Episode 1203 consisted of singing Ed Sheeran's "Thinking Out Loud." Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all voted "Yes," sending Kechi to the Judge Cuts.

Judge Cuts[]

Kechi's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1210 consisted of singing Leon Russell's "A Song for You." Howie Mandel, Mel B, guest judge Seal, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations. Kechi's performance was strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals instead of Britt Saasen.

Quarterfinals[]

Kechi's Week 3 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1215 consisted of singing Katy Perry's "By the Grace of God." Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations. Kechi received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals in Episode 1216 instead of Final Draft.

Semifinals[]

Kechi's Week 2 Semifinals performance in Episode 1219 consisted of singing Frances' "Don't Worry About Me." Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations. Kechi finished in fourth, fifth or sixth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, she received more online votes than Colin Cloud and Diavolo, advancing her to the Finals in Episode 1220.

Finals[]

Kechi's Finals performance in Episode 1221 consisted of singing Estelle's "Conqueror." Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations.

Finale[]

For the finale in Episode 1222, Kechi along with Angelica Hale sang "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" with Kelly Clarkson. Kechi did not receive enough votes to advance to the Top 5, eliminating her from the competition instead of Angelica Hale.

The Champions Preliminary[]

Kechi returned for America's Got Talent: The Champions. Her performance in Episode TC04 consisted of singing Calum Scott's "You Are The Reason".  Howie Mandel , Mel B , Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations. Moved by her performance, Simon pressed his Golden Buzzer (having always wanted to do so for her), sending Kechi directly to the final. 

The Champions Final[]

Kechi's Finals performance in Episode TC06 consisted of singing Sia's “Opportunity."  Howie Mandel , Mel B , Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave her standing ovations.

The Champions Finale[]

In Episode TC07, the superfans did not give Kechi enough votes to enter the Top 5, eliminating her from the competition along with Brian Justin Crum instead of Cristina Ramos.
