Larry the Mime was a mime who "auditioned" for Season 9 of America's Got Talent. He was eliminated in the audition round. He was later revealed to be Nick Cannon in disguise.

Background[]

Nick Cannon put on heavy make-up, a wig, and kept himself silent throughout the audition to maintain the appearance of a mime with which to prank the judges.

Audition[]

Larry the Mime's audition in Episode 901 consisted of mimicing a mime; portraying himself being trapped inside an imaginary box, pretending to perform a common mime paper trick, and pretending to cry. Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel all buzzed the act. All four judges voted "No," eliminating Larry from the competition. Larry then started to insult the judges and screamed "Boo you!" in retaliation to the audience who booed him in regards to his insults. He then approached the judges and took off his wig, revealing that he was really Nick Cannon the whole time.

Trivia[]

  • This was the first ever televised act to be a prank on the judges by another main member (Nick pranking the Judging Panel), with the second being the return of Ryan Stock and AmberLynn in Season 16 wherein Simon Cowell pranked Sofia Vergara and the third was when AGT: Extreme judge Nikki Bella pranked Simon in Season 17 with the help of her twin sister Brie (as Duo Rag Dolls).
  • It was also the first of two times Nick participated as a contestant in a show he hosted. Years later, in Season 5 of The Masked Singer, he returned to the show following being quarantined for COVID-19 as the wildcard entry the Bulldog and was unmasked in the same episode by fill-in host Niecy Nash. Nick went on to host the remainder of the season.
