Background

Merrick William Hanna is from Encinitas, California. He is a hip-hop dancer, popper, animator, and actor. [1] He has watched America's Got Talent for a long time. He is influenced by his grandma who takes four dance classes each week despite being in her eighties. He also auditioned for Seasons 10 and 11 but was cut before the auditions, according to Instagram Live.

Audition

Merrick Hanna's audition in Episode 1201 consisted of dancing to portray a broken robot to Alec Benjamin's "I Built a Friend." Howie Mandel, Mel B, Heidi Klum, and Simon Cowell all voted "Yes," sending Merrick to the Judge Cuts.

Judge Cuts

Merrick Hanna's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1210 consisted of dancing to Lindsey Stirling and Andrew McMahon in the Wilderness' "Something Wild." Simon Cowell and Mel B gave him standing ovations. Merrick's performance was strong enough for the judges to send him to the Quarterfinals along with Artyon & Paige.

Quarterfinals

Merrick Hanna's Week 2 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1213 consisted of dancing to a cover of "Lost Boy." Mel B and Simon Cowell gave him standing ovations. Merrick received enough votes to advance to the Semifinals in Episode 1214 along with Celine Tam, instead of Mirror Image.

Semifinals

Merrick Hanna's Week 2 Semifinals performance in Episode 1219 consisted of dancing to Jon Bellion's "iRobot (The Human Condition)." At one point in the performance, he appeared to be flying in the air. Mel B gave him a standing ovation. Merrick did not receive enough votes to advance to the Finals in Episode 1220, eliminating him from the competition along with Christian Guardino instead of Angelica Hale.

Trivia

  • Despite being twelve-years-old at his audition, the videos for two of his following performances on the official America's Got Talent YouTube channel refer to him as an eleven-year-old.
  • Mel B gave him a standing ovation every time he performed.
