MerseyGirls were a dance group who competed on America's Got Talent: Fantasy League, competing on Mel B's team. They were eliminated in the Preliminaries.

Background[]

The group hail from The Metropolitan Borough of Wirral which is located in Merseyside.

In 2011, the groups lead dancer Julia Carlile appeared as a schoolgirl in Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks, before then going on to appear as an extra in 2012.

In 2014, Carlile voiced an uncredited girl in the video game PS Vita Pets.

In 2016, Carlile appeared on an episode of CBBC’s Hank Zipzer as the character of Molly for one episode and on CBBC talent show Taking The Next Step in its first series, making it to the final six in Canada, before being eliminated.

The group initially consisted of a quintet of five friends named Julia, Annie, Alice, Rebecca, and Poppy. The group were initially named Just Us and they competed on the twelfth season of Britain’s Got Talent in 2018 where they acquired Alesha Dixon’s Golden Buzzer, changed their group name to MerseyGirls and finished 9th overall in the Final. At the time of their audition Julia had scoliosis which is a curvature of the spine and needed surgery with their performances at the time having been believed the last set that they could do before her surgery.

MerseyGirls performed again in public for the first time in February 2018.

In 2019, MerseyGirls went on tour alongside Bailey McConnell, KNE & Gabz.

In 2019, MerseyGirls returned on Britain’s Got Talent: The Champions, where it was revealed that Simon had paid for Julia’s surgery and afterwards she still retained the ability to dance. MerseyGirls won the Superfan vote in their episode and finished in the top 10 of the final.

In 2020, Carlile voiced Mary-Jane Watson in the short Spider-Gwen and portrayed Kayden Ferguson in four episodes of Tin Star.

In Winter 2020, MerseyGirls performed on the Britain’s Got Talent: Christmas Spectacular with their performance covered by a live rendition of Calum Scott’s “You Are The Reason”.

MerseyGirls were nominated as one of the top 40 acts, sending them through to the Draft Pool.

Fantasy League Preliminary[]

MerseyGirls' Preliminary performance in Episode FL02 consisted of performing a contemporary dance routine to P!nk's "Trustfall". Mel B and Simon Cowell gave them standing ovations. They did not receive enough votes to advance to the Semifinals, eliminating them from the competition instead of Sheldon Riley.
