Paul Potts was an opera singer from America's Got Talent: The Champions. He was eliminated in the Finals.
Background[]
Paul is best known for being the very first winner of Britain's Got Talent, the flagship show of the Got Talent franchise, in 2007. Prior to his appearance he was working as a mobile phone salesman and served as a Bristol city councilman. His first album, "One Chance", went double platinum in the United Kingdom, also gaining multiplatinum status in Sweden, Australia, Germany and New Zealand. He released his second album, Passione, in 2009, which reached #5 in the UK Charts. He also performed live in the studio on the grand finale of Australia's Got Talent in 2009 as a guest performer as well. He was a special guest performer during the final of Norway's Got Talent's third series on 13 November 2010. Potts performed at the Royal Variety Performance 2012 for the 2nd time, however this time performed alongside Diversity, Stavros Flatley and Spelbound. Perhaps coincidentally Once Chance was also the title of his 2013 memoir which also became a feature film starring both James Corden and Julie Walters. The biopic was released in 2013 alongside the memoir and took in over £7 million at the box office. In the same year he released his third album, The Greatest Hits, which reached #21 on the Official Chart.
The Champions Preliminary[]
Paul Potts' performance in Episode TC03 consisted of singing "Caruso" by Lucio Dalla. Howie Mandel , Mel B , Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. It was revealed that the superfans voted Paul into the top three along with Jon Dorenbos and Billy & Emily England. It was later revealed that he received more votes than Jon and Billy & Emily, sending him to the final.
The Champions Final[]
Paul Potts' Finals performance in Episode TC06 consisted of singing "Nessun Dorma" from Turandot. Howie Mandel , Mel B , Heidi Klum and Simon Cowell all gave him standing ovations. Paul dedicated his performance to Season 3 winner Neal E. Boyd, who passed away in 2018.
The Champions Finale[]
For the finale in Episode TC07, Paul Potts was part of Preacher Lawson's opening sketch in which he looks at Preacher like he has three heads. The superfans did not give Paul enough votes to enter the Top 5, eliminating him from the competition along with Angelica Hale instead of Preacher Lawson.
After the Show[]
In 2019, Paul competed on the World's Got Talent special held in China. He was eliminated in the Preliminaries after being knocked out by a diabolo juggling group from Taiwan.
In the same year, Paul competed on Britain's Got Talent: The Champions. He was eliminated in the Preliminaries there as well. Paul did not manage to make his night's Top 3, leaving the judges visibly shocked.
In 2022, he participated in the sixth season of the German version of The Masked Singer. He finished in 8th place as the Koala.
In April 2023, he appeared in an episode of 'James Martin's Saturday Morning'.
