Background

RNG (Rated Next Generation) is a hip hop crew based out of The Connection Performing Arts Center in Mukilteo, Washington. RNG was formed in May of 2009 by director and choreographer Kolanie Marks with the express purpose of competing at Hip Hop International. After 6 weeks of training, the crew placed 1st in the USA and 6th in the world.

RNG is a strong supporter of local charities and has performed at events throughout the Puget Sound area in support of worthy causes such as Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research, Susan G. Komen, and R.O.O.T.S. Ministry – advocates of homeless young adults in their area. 1

Audition

RNG's audition consisted of dancing to "I Can Transform Ya." Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and Howie Mandel all voted "Yes," sending the act to the Vegas Round.

Vegas Round

RNG was one of the Standby Acts in the Vegas Round. It was sorted into the "Kid Dancers" category. Its performance consisted of dancing to "Imma Be." Its audition was strong enough for the judges to send it to the Quarterfinals.

Quarterfinals

RNG's Quarterfinals performance in Week 1 consisted of dancing with a "girl's nightmare" theme to "Disturbia." The group finished in either fourth or fifth place in America's Vote. In the Judge's Choice, although Sharon Osbourne voted for RNG, Piers Morgan and Howie Mandel both decided not to send it to the Semifinals, eliminating the act from the competition instead of Future Funk.

Wild Card

RNG was brought back by Sharon Osbourne for the Wild Card Show. Its performance consisted of dancing and rapping to original music about kissing. It did not receive enough votes to be sent to the Semifinals, eliminating it from the competition instead of Connor Doran.

After the Show

RNG is currently made up of seven young dancers ranging in age from 13-15 as of 2012, all from the Puget Sound area and under the continued direction of Kolanie Marks.
