Samantha, grew up on Cape Cod in Dennis, Massachusetts before moving to New Bedford, Massachusetts, and attending Normandin Middle School and New Bedford High. After graduation, she returned to Normandin, where for several years she was the Drama Club director, and put on four shows.

Johnson tried out for "American Idol" a couple of times in the past, but had not gotten very far. [1]

She is the oldest of six kids. Because her parents are separated, she finds herself in a mother-type role, driving her siblings around or giving advice.

Judge Cuts[]

Samantha Johnson's Judge Cuts performance in Episode 1008 consisted of singing Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down." Heidi Klum gave her a standing ovation. Samantha's performance was strong enough for the judges to send her to the Quarterfinals instead of Alondra Santos and Nick & Eddie.

Samantha Johnson's Week 1 Quarterfinals performance in Episode 1012 consisted of singing The Mamas & The Papas' "California Dreamin'." Howard Stern, Heidi Klum, Mel B, and Howie Mandel gave her standing ovations. Samantha finished in sixth, seventh, or eighth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, she received more online votes than both Alondra Santos and The Gentlemen, sending Samantha to the Semifinals in Episode 1013.

Samantha Johnson's Week 1 Semifinals performance in Episode 1018 consisted of singing The Weeknd's "Earned It." Heidi Klum and Mel B gave her standing ovations. Samantha finished in fourth, fifth or sixth place in America's Vote. In the Dunkin' Save, Samantha received fewer online votes than Benton Blount. In the Judges' Choice, although Howard Stern and Howie Mandel did not vote for her, Heidi Klum and Mel B did, forcing a tiebreaker; whichever act had received more votes from America would progress to the Finals. Samantha received fewer votes than The CraigLewis Band, eliminating her from the competition in Episode 1019.
