The Vegas Round of Season 4 of America's Got Talent took place from July 28, 2009 to July 29, 2009, in Las Vegas. A total of 160 acts were shown to audition. 40 acts proceeded to the Quarterfinals, and 120 acts were eliminated.

Upon arrival at the Las Vegas airport, all the acts that had been passed through the auditions were divided into four groups. Three of the four groups would enter Las Vegas and await further verdicts. The fourth group consisted of 25 acts who were eliminated automatically at the airport.

Afterwards, acts were brought before the judges and informed whether they would perform live in the Top 40 Quarterfinals (Unlike other seasons, a majority of the acts did not perform in the Vegas Round). The judges selected three dance groups: Breaksk8, Destined 2 Be, and U4RIA Dance Crew for a challenge. They were asked to prepare a dance routine in 12 hours. Each group would perform to the same piece of music. After watching the performances, the judges would decide which dance groups, if any, would advance.

Simon Cowell, executive producer of the show, called the judges on their flight back to Los Angeles, stating that he was unhappy with some of the eliminations the judges made. Cowell revealed that there was just "too much talent" eliminated, and that he felt that a number of these acts should be given another chance. As a result, 2 acts were brought back as wildcards during each Quarterfinal round. This turned the Top 40 into a Top 48.

  • Strikethroughs indicate that the act was chosen to return for the Quarterfinals as a wild card.
