Smage Bros. Riding Shows was a stunt motorbike group from Season 6 of America's Got Talent. It was eliminated in the Finals.

Background[]

Phil and Pat Smage are The Smage Bros., two motorcycle-riding brothers from a farm in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. This riding duo developed their love of motorcycles from their parents, who first met at a racetrack. Growing up, the brothers were taught by their parents how to ride. Finding they had both similar talents and a love for performing, the two formed the trick-riding group, The Smage Bros.

Phil and Pat began performing their act at local motorcycle shops, races and fairs during the spring and summer. The other part of the year found them competing in action sports competitions, including motorcycle trials, snowboarding and snowskating, with one following the sun and the other chasing the snow. Their pursuits brought them a great deal of success. Pat is a 13 times US National Observed Trials Champion and continues to dominate the sport in the US.

Phil collected three national championships in snowskating at the Winter X Games, competed in the AMA MAXXIS Endurocross series and performed motorcycle stunts as Captain America in the Marvel Universe Live shows for two years. Following a severe injury attempting a world record UTV jump that left him a quadraplegic and doctors telling him he'd never walk again Phil embarked on a long recovery that has seen him regain much functionality and returning to the sports he loves, off road motorcycling and snowskating. Phil documented his recovery process on YouTube drawing praise and encouragement from fans for his honesty and determination to never give up.

Audition[]

Smage Bros. Riding Shows's audition in Episode 608 consisted of motorbikers performing tricks using ramps and avoiding hurting an assistant. Piers Morgan, Sharon Osbourne, and Howie Mandel all voted "Yes," sending the act to the Vegas Round.

Vegas Round[]

Smage Bros. Riding Shows was one of the Standby Acts in the Vegas Round. It was sorted into the "Danger Acts" category. Its performance in Episode 612 consisted of performing motorbike tricks such as jumping over people using a ramp. Its audition was strong enough for the judges to send it to the Quarterfinals along with Sandou Trio Russian Bar.

Quarterfinals[]

Smage Bros. Riding Shows's Quarterfinals performance in Episode 615 consisted of performing motorbike tricks such as jumping onto a garbage container and knocking the hat off someone lying down. It finished in either fourth or fifth place in America's Vote in Episode 616. In the Judge's Choice, although Piers Morgan did not vote for it, Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel both voted for it, sending the act to the Semifinals instead of Landon Swank.

Semifinals[]

Smage Bros. Riding Shows's Semifinals performance in Episode 627 consisted of performing motorbike tricks such as riding on a one-wheel motorbike, riding up a steep wall, jumping over seven people, and performing a backflip. It finished in either fifth or sixth place in America's Vote in Episode 628. In the Judge's Choice, Piers Morgan and Howie Mandel both voted for the act, sending it to the Finals instead of Snap Boogie.

Top 10[]

Smage Bros. Riding Shows's Top 10 Finals performance in Episode 629 consisted of performing motorbike tricks such as riding on skateboard ramps and narrowly avoiding (but unintentionally making contact with occasionally) an assistant. The act did not receive enough votes to finish in at least fourth place in America's Vote, eliminating it from the competition in Episode 630 instead of Team iLuminate. The Smage Brother's humility was perhaps best demonstrated during the final request for votes when Phil quietly smiled and hand signalled pointing to Team iLuminate.

Trivia[]

  • Smage Bros. Riding Shows is one of only two acts that has won the Judges' Choice twice in the same season, the other being Ndlovu Youth Choir from Season 14.
