The Funkateer Dancers are a dance group from Season 20 of America's Got Talent.
Background[]
The Funkateer Dancers were founded in the 1976 by Ed Miller. The original group consisted of the aforementioned Ed Miller, DeA'mon Ellerson, Tony Warren, Jeffery Healey, Michael Kelley and Tony Lacey. The group are from Inkster, Michigan. DeA'mon Ellerson passed away in 2022, with Tony Lacey following in 2024. However, Ed Miller, Tony Warren, Michael Kelley, and Jeffery Healey still perform together as a quartet. The group were frequent performers on Detroit’s The Scene and in the 1980s their style of choreography was vastly responsible for revolutionizing the dance landscape in Detroit and its surrounding areas.
Audition[]
The Funkateer Dancers' performance in Episode 2004 consisted of dancing to Rick James' "Give It To Me Baby". Impressed with their performance, Terry Crews hit the Golden Buzzer, sending them directly to the live shows.
Trivia[]
- They are the first ever act to acquire a Golden Buzzer despite being the first act televised in their audition episode.
